Aside

A Barely There Christmas

This year
Our Christmas tree
Is defined by
The Minimalist School of Decorating
Not by choice
But by decorations missing in inaction
Lost
In the abyss
Of the garage

In the heat
Of the afternoon
On the first of December
I assemble the tree
It stands proudly bare and green
It is only then
A dread falls upon me
Where is the bag?
The bag of tinsel
And wooden Xmas bears
Amber’s stuffed cats
Various coloured baubles
And the Angel

I peer into the gaping maw
Of the fire breathing
Dragon of a garage
Blessed
By afternoon sun

No ceiling fans

It is then
That the Minimalist School of Decorating
Begins to define our Christmas
Sparse
Simple
Bare
Ho!Ho!Ho!
