The Call of Madness

The wanton call of madness
Soughing ever louder
Through the stark branches
Of everyday
Forests
Leaves blown
In temper’s gales
Crunched underfoot
In the throws of autumn’s coloured death
A sigh
As all resolve
Is lost
The pied piper of despair
Dances merrily down the lane
Followed by rats and mice and vermin
And children of the pain
Eager to leave
To abandon all
To give themselves
To nothing
To peaceful darkness
To insanity
Once again
