Saturday Morning in Buderim

Clutching

Hot sweet ginger

And a Wodehouse book

I walk

Through the streets

Of Buderim

Happy

In the Winter sun

Window shopping

Family owned jewellery store

Closing down sale

After 22 yrs

On a shelf

By herself

A woman

Carved in blue agate

Encased in bobbled gold

A Cameo

Cold

Ethereal

A piece worthy

Of adorning the breast

Of a Victorian matron

My bank account

And this jewel

Do not relate

With a sigh

I continue

And enter the Op Shop

Senses overwhelmed

Decaying books

Ageing clothes

Ornaments behind glass

A porcelain cat

Dark green

With painted poppies

Warm

Bright

Poppies

$8

A floral parade

Wrapped in newspaper

For the drive home

Safely displayed

Within my cabinet

But

Still

My lustful thoughts

Return

To the Cameo

Of a woman

Coolly carved in blue agate

Encased in gold

Out of my reach

Someone else’s jewel
