Dead Letter

She’d written the letter
Closed the self sealed envelope
Attached the sticky stamp
{No need for tongues or spit}
Walked down to the postbox
Sent it on its way
With a mental wish
For a safe journey
And a swift reply

Now she sits and waits
As day follows day
Follows day
The Postie rides on by
A green genie on a motorbike
Who never stops
Except when delivering bills

She mourns the lack of a letter
Questions her own self worth
Why doesn’t he reply?

Weeks Months Years

On the day a letter is delivered
{Once lost in an office
Of mail quite dead
Now revived}
She turns to stone and dies

Too late
Too late
She’s met her fate
The letter arrived too late
