Sunday Sketch 81 by Terry Whidborne

He’d found the key

The key to

Her heart?

The key to treasure buried

Long ago on

Islands of hope

He’d long forgotten

These dreams

Times past

When he’d been young

Never handsome

She said she loved him

He’d gone in search of gold

Showering her with promises

Pressed into marriage

Her seven lusty sons

Waiting in perpetual silence

Clutched key in return

He’d take the seven

Sail for islands of gold

Return laden

With love still intact

Never too late

To gladden a heart

With molten gold

Lost promises
