The Walk

through the side gate

and across the road

she takes the well-worn path

loses herself among the trees

following the trail she’s trod so many times before

each time she vows she’ll take another route

one filled with less obstacles on the way

but still her feet deny the mind

she dances straight through large muddy puddles

skims rocks across the surface of the creek

pats stray dogs and talks to strangers

and wanders wistfully along the track

until she turns and wanders back again

then goes inside and closes off her mind
