the bushfire season is over

for us, in the humidity

 

but in southern climes

the forests keep on burning

 

and the animals die in numbers

too large to contemplate

 

the government wrings its hands

and places the blame on the states

 

as our world dries

and denial is a river in africa

 

we are the hapless guinea pigs

burning in capitalistic greed
